  • Love love love this church. Welcoming, open-minded, and accepting. It took me awhile to realize many of the people my age are teaching in the children's programs. The new minister is thoughtful, creative, and grounding. The nursery staff are the best. Very loving. Lots of great adult enrichment activities.

  • My first exposure to UUMAN was through a Wednesday discussion group I was invited to attend. This group, "Daytimers", meets weekly and discusses prominent current events. I was impressed with the people...friendly, intelligent, and very knowledgeable. My wife and I begin to visit the Sunday services and eventually opted to join in September, 2009. We have never regretted it.

Our visit started off on the wrong foot. The door greeter actively tried to shame us for arriving 1 minute late and kept going on and on about how inconvenient our lateness was for her. We're new to the area, and I didn't realize we'd be driving 20+ miles to get there on 1 lane roads. I can't control traffic, and she made me feel like we should turn around and go home over that 60 seconds of service we missed. Welcoming, right?

A few people came over to introduce themselves during our visit, and they were very nice, but most acted like we weren't there at all. The folks who did speak to us seemed rushed, like they wanted to get it over with. Again, not a very welcoming vibe.

The message was delivered well. The overall service felt insubstantial, which I'll chalk up to their current lack of a full-time minister, and the music was... interesting. It was certainly a joyful noise, just not very well-rehearsed.

The one saving grace was the children's program. My child enjoyed himself, and if we ever came back to UUMAN, it would be because of the kids' activities offered or the Saturday night coffee shop.

  • I've found UUMAN (Unitarian Universalist Metro Atlanta North) to be a loving, family-oriented congregation. The church is lovely, and the people are good-humored, intelligent, and good to know. Visitors of all faiths and backgrounds are always welcomed at UUMAN services and events. At every UUMAN service, they make a point of stating: "Whoever you are, wherever you're from, wherever you are on your life's journey, you are welcome here." and I believe they mean it sincerely.

  • I'm surprised at the negative reviews, because on my first visit, I experienced nothing but welcoming and acceptance. My greeter, Robby, was warm and friendly. The people who sat around me during the service were welcoming. And I joined a small group of people (Robby and Brian, Julie, Terri, Jackie, Nina, Sue and several others) for the lunch that they do after service in nearby restaurants. I enjoyed everyone I met at the lunch and reveled in an open, stimulating conversation. This is a church whose principles I agree with and I would like to get to know better.
